The journal title is a reference to ‘the great lines’ used for fishing the deeper waters of the Hebrides each spring and summer. I hope that this collaboration between contributors will lead to a much deeper understanding of our shared heritage, particularly regarding the poorly understood period prior to the institution of the parish registers.
